Barrel Sauna FAQs
Do I need planning permission?
The short answer is probably not. The long answer is since October 2008 outbuildings in England have been covered by ‘permitted development’ rights, meaning you have automatic planning permission without application subject to certain restrictions. Basically, if you live in ‘Designated Land’ such as an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), National Parks, conservation areas or a World Heritage Site or If your house is ‘Listed’.
If your house does not fall in one of these areas/categories, then you should be fine under these criteria:
- The building is not within 2m of a boundary eg Garden Fence
- Does not take up more than 50% of your garden space
- Is not sited on land forward of ‘Principal Elevation’ (The front of your house)
What kind of foundation do I need?
A firm, level base is required for the Barrel Sauna to stand on. Concrete base of 150mm is recommended, but a flat level area of hardstanding or gravel will suffice. Paving, decking and gravel will also be fine.
What options are there with Barrel Saunas?
Besides the length and diameter, we can provide a small porch area of 60cm to allow a couple of seats next to the door. You also have the option of a changing room on any Barrel Sauna over 3.5m in length, or just a larger sauna room depending on what length building you go for.
What maintenance do they require?
Very little! Your building will arrive in bare wood and should be treated or painted as soon as possible. Apart from good housekeeping, the exterior of the Barrel should be maintained in accordance with whatever treatment, paint or preservative you use, and tidied up after each use
How difficult are they to construct?
Not difficult but does take some basic construction skill. Our team are well practised in fitting timber buildings and can expertly construct your building in a timely fashion, but anyone can construct these buildings given time and the correct tools. We are also available by phone 7 days a week should you require to speak to us about any aspect of your building.
Our Grill Cabins, Sauna Cabins and Deluxe Cabin are all supplied with a 12 month statutory warranty. This guarantees replacement of any component parts should they be found to be defective within this period, however it does not cover accidental damage or weather damage once building is delivered or constructed. Customers should also note that timber is a natural product and prone to changes in appearance, including some movement and the occurrence of small knot holes or splits in extreme temperatures and weather conditions. These will not be accepted as valid reasons to claim against our warranty as they are visual imperfections and do not affect the buildings structural integrity.
In addition to our warranty;
Our Grills and Flues are guaranteed for 12 months.
Our roofing shingles are guaranteed for 10 years.
